SELKIRK, SCOTLAND - JUNE 12: Standard Bearer Sam Coltherd fords the river Ettrick, as they take part in the town's Common Riding - one of the oldest Borders festivals on June 12, 2026 in Selkirk, Scotland. The Selkirk Common Riding commemorates the town's history and honours those who fell at the Battle of Flodden in 1513. The annual event features its traditional cavalcade of up to 500 horses riding the boundaries of the common land and the surrounding Borders countryside. The day culminates in the Market Place with the poignant Casting of the Colours, where standard bearers wave their flags to the music of the Silver Band, recreating the return of the town's sole survivor from the historic battle.
