America's second biggest city will host eight games in the World Cup but faces even bigger global scrutiny in 2028 when the Olympics come to town, bringing athletes and fans from all over the world. Visitors to Los Angeles are frequently struck by the staggering levels of homelessness in a city that also has pockets of astonishing wealth. In a letter sent June 11 to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), the US Department of Housing and Urban Development accused the agency of fraud and criticized its lack of progress in reducing homelessness, amid reports that federal funding had been frozen pending an ongoing investigation into alleged financial mismanagement.
