This satellite image obtained from Copernicus Sentinel Data 2026 on September 10, 2026 and taken on September 9, 2026 shows a general view of traces of possible oil leaks about 20 kilometres off the Iran's coast in the Gulf of Oman, according to an AFP analysis confirmed by experts. Two of these slicks appear to originate from the locations where Iranian tankers M/T Riesco and M/T Kylo transmitted their last signals before being sunk on September 8 and September 5, respectively. Iran launched fresh attacks against US targets in the Middle East on September 9 in retaliation for American strikes on Iranian oil tankers, dragging the foes deeper into war. The United States and Iran are locked in a stalemate six months into the war, with Iran maintaining a stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz and Washington pushing a campaign to choke Iran's ports and economy.
