Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide addresses press conference after signing the financial cooperation agreement between the two countries on the new Hungarian programme of the Norway Grants, ending a funding freeze, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budapest on October 26, 2026. Hungary lost more than 200 million in support during the previous funding period due the policy of Hungary's nationalist ex-leader Viktor Orban's government. The loss of these funds not only restricted the activities and programmes of many NGOs but in numerous cases made their operation impossible. The new agreement reopens the possibility to help Hungarian civil society organisations after several years of interruption.
